Kids & teen privacy and compliance

Simply Mindfull Moments is built to give younger users a safe, calm space while giving parents and guardians clear control. This page explains how we collect, handle, retain, and delete data for kids and teens, and the rights you have under U.S. children's privacy laws such as COPPA and related state youth privacy requirements.

Who this page covers

Kids mode (under 13). A device-only calm area for children under 13. There is no child account and no personal information collected from the child. A parent or legal guardian records verifiable consent on their own account.

Teen mode (13–17). A parent-linked account for teens with access to breathing, grounding, and gentle check-in tools. The teen must be set up by a parent or guardian and both sides can end the link at any time.

Adults (18+). Adults use the standard Simply Mindfull Moments app and are covered by our Privacy Policy.

Consent

Verifiable parental consent for kids. Kids mode is only available when a parent or legal guardian with a verified email address records consent in their account. We generate a one-time unlock code that the parent must enter on the child's device. The child cannot create an account or provide consent. The consent record includes the child's first name, birth year, consent date, and the notice version agreed to (version 2026-08-23).

Parent-linked consent for teens. A parent or guardian creates a single-use linking code from their verified account. The teen signs in, enters the code, and confirms they understand what the parent can and cannot see before the link is active.

Withdrawing consent. Parents can withdraw consent for kids mode or unlink a teen at any time from the parental dashboard. Withdrawal deletes the relevant consent record and stops any future data sharing or totals reporting.

Kids mode promises

  • No child account is created and no child logs in.
  • We do not collect name, email, age, device identifiers, or any free text from the child.
  • No activity from the kids area is transmitted to or stored on our servers.
  • No advertising, analytics, personalization, or third-party scripts run in the kids area.
  • Only the parent/guardian's consent record is stored on the adult's account.

Teen mode promises

  • Teen accounts are created only with a parent or guardian's linking code.
  • Only calm tools are available; there is no public posting, messaging, or feed.
  • We store only the calm tool used and its duration. No teen-authored content ever leaves the device.
  • Parents see only aggregate totals: sessions and minutes in the last 30 days, plus last activity.
  • No ads, ad targeting, profiling, recommendation scoring, AI training, or sale/sharing of teen data.

Data handling

Kids mode. Nothing your child taps, types, or selects in the kids area leaves the device. We do not receive activity records, drawings, feelings selections, or any other content. The only server data is the parent's consent record stored on the adult's account.

Teen mode. We store only which calm tool was opened and for how long. Any notes, journal entries, feeling words, or free text the teen writes stay on the device in local storage and are never transmitted to us. Parents see only totals, never content.

No third-party sharing. We do not sell, rent, or share kids' or teens' data with advertisers, analytics providers, AI model trainers, or data brokers. The only service providers that touch family data are our backend host (for authentication and consent records) and our email provider (for parent-facing transactional notices such as consent confirmations). No marketing emails are sent to minors.

Safety exceptions. If a teen submits a safety report, that report is private to the teen and the safety team. It is not shared with parents or linked clinicians. See Content Policy for more.

Retention

Kids consent records. Kept while the consent is active. When a parent withdraws consent, the record is deleted. If the parent deletes their account, the consent record is purged with the rest of the account.

Teen calm-session logs. Kept while the teen link is active so parents can see aggregate usage. When a teen is unlinked, the teen's session totals are deleted. If the teen or parent account is deleted, all associated teen logs are purged.

Invite codes. One-time codes expire after 14 days or immediately when used, whichever comes first. Unused codes can be cancelled by the parent at any time.

Safety reports. Teen safety reports are retained for up to 400 days for safety-team review and then automatically purged. Access to these reports is logged.

Account deletion. When a parent or teen deletes their Simply Mindfull Moments account, all associated family consent records, teen logs, safety reports, and settings are permanently deleted. See Your Privacy Rights for details.

Your rights

Access

Parents and teens can request a copy of the limited data we hold, including consent records and teen calm-session totals. We do not store child activity because there is none to provide.

Export

Signed-in users can request a data export through the privacy requests page. Teen exports contain only the totals we store; kid-mode exports contain only the parent consent record.

Correction

Parents can update their consent record or a teen's safety settings from the parental dashboard. Contact us if a birth year or name was entered incorrectly.

Deletion

Parents can withdraw consent for kids mode at any time, which deletes the consent record and locks the kids area. Either a parent or teen can unlink a teen account, which deletes teen calm-session totals. Full account deletion purges all associated family records.

Withdraw consent

Consent is not permanent. Parents can withdraw consent from the account page or by contacting privacy support. Withdrawal is processed without penalty.

Parents and guardians can act on most of these rights instantly in the Parental dashboard — review exactly what is stored for each child, download a copy, or erase it. For anything needing review, submit a request through Privacy Requests. You may also email privacy at simplymindfullmoments.org (replace " at " with "@" — written this way to discourage scrapers). We respond within the timeframes required by applicable law.

Teen safety reporting

Teens can report concerning content or safety issues from the teen calm tools area or from the community feed. If a report indicates self-harm or crisis, we show crisis resources first. Reports are private to the teen and the safety team; they are not shown to parents or linked clinicians. Review is handled by trained adults, and access is logged. See the Content Policy for the reporting process.

What we do not allow

  • We do not knowingly create accounts for children under 13. If we learn an account belongs to a child under 13, we delete it.
  • We do not use kids' or teens' data to train AI models, build profiles, or deliver personalized recommendations.
  • We do not show ads or allow third-party tracking in the kids or teen areas.
  • We do not allow public posting, direct messaging, or contact between minors and strangers in the teen area.

Important notices

Self-care, not medical care. Simply Mindfull Moments is a self-care and wellness support tool. It is not a medical device, diagnostic service, or treatment program. If you or your child is in danger or needs urgent help, use the crisis support page or your local emergency number.

Changes to this page. If we make material changes to how kids' or teens' data is handled, we will update this page and, where required, notify parents and obtain fresh consent before continuing any kid or teen services.

Contact us. Questions about this page or your family's data can be sent through Privacy Requests.

This page supplements the Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, and Content Policy. In case of conflict, this family-specific page governs how we handle kids' and teens' data.
